    One of the most influ­en­tial mares in mod­ern rein­ing has died.

    Dun It For Chex, a mil­lion­aire pro­duc­er by the great Hol­ly­wood Dun It and out of Sil­ver N Blue Chex (by Docs Sil­ver N Blue), was humane­ly euth­a­nized on Mon­day night. She was 23.

    Although the gray mare did not have a show record of her own, she foaled one prize-win­ning rein­er after anoth­er. At the time of her death, she was pro­duc­ing win­ners for own­er Car­di­nal Hill Train­ing Cen­ter of Aubrey, Texas.

    The mare’s sons and daugh­ters banked that mon­ey with top fin­ish­es at the NRHA Futu­ri­ty and Der­by, the FEI World Eques­tri­an Games (WEG) and the Nation­al Rein­ing Breed­ers Clas­sic (NRBC).

    Dun It For Chex eclipsed the $1 mil­lion mark as a pro­duc­er at the NRHA Der­by in June.

    Tops among her earn­ers are NRHA Futu­ri­ty Lev­el 4 Open Res cham­pi­ons Dun It For Whizkey ($259,119, by Top­sail Whiz) and Star­bucks Side­kick ($195,150, by Smart Starbuck).

    Last­ing Legacy

    Dun It For Chex may con­tin­ue to add to her lega­cy despite of her death. With frozen eggs in its pos­ses­sion, Car­di­nal hopes to breed the mare for sev­er­al more years.

    Ear­li­er this sum­mer, Dun It For Chex joined Ebony Shines as the only matri­archs to achieve the sta­tus of NRHA Mil­lion Dol­lar Dam. In 2018, the mare was induct­ed into the NRHA Hall of Fame.
